About the Clay
Most of Poni's tableware is made from porcelain, thrown on a wheel and finished with hand-building techniques. Though it can be a bit finicky on the wheel porcelain is both delicate and strong. The creamy white of the fired clay is both able to be showcased and used as a base for a variety of glazes. The porcelain products are fired to temperatures ~2200F.
The two other clays found in Poni goods are gray and black stonewares. These clays contain a higher content of grog and a grittier feel. The fired, exposed portions of these products will wear and soften with prolonged use. The stonewares are fired to temperatures slightly lower than the porcelain, ~2160F.
